Why I lost it this morning.

Why I lost it this morning.

Facebook is a great way to spread in important message to many people really quickly. Some of it is profound, some funny and some first looks both profound and funny until you really look at it. I am quite sure you have all seen this one:
It looks all clever and witty. I giggled the first time I saw it. The second time I happened to be eating a piece of amazing sashmi with some greens and wasabi, it had literally taken me 15 seconds to prepare. It dawned on me that actually this fast, easy food was perfect nourishment for my body. I got a little defensive of the piece of yellowfin on my plate (phew at least it wasn't cheap), fast and easy doesn't mean without value.

Since then this little saying has popped up on my newsfeed a number of times and I tried really hard to ignore it. Today was the last straw... I lost it!

I finally shared it with a comment that went a bit like this:

"I am not normally one for Facebook rants, but this morning I hit the end of my patience with this one.

Versions of this keep coming up on my news feed. I can't contain myself any longer. I HATE IT!!!!

Before we even get onto the implied slut shaming side. It is also wrong about food. What is easier or faster than a beautiful piece of sashimi with a side of greens and wasabi? It is fast, easy and to die for! (Have you ever allowed yourself to meet a woman like that before she was crushed under the weight of societies ideals on being ladylike).

Salad is cheap, bone broth is cheap, a gourmet meal with produce from your own garden is cheap. What the heck is a "cheap" person anyway, a frugal one? One that doesn't expect much in exchange for sex? One that sees little value in material possessions? Are these bad traits?

Fake food is not food, so don't eat that stuff, but what is a fake person? One that has been bullied out of being authentic? One that has been told their only value is how they look so try to look as good as they want their soul to feel?
It is time to think about what this actually says. What does it say about our values? Are we looking at people as consumables as we do food?"

OK, maybe it wasn't exactly like that, there may have been a few profanities in there the first time. But let's really look deeply into the values we put on people and well by saying people, we are all really talking about women. If you described a man as fast you would just assume he was pretty athletic. Where as the term "fast women" gives a completely different image. So let's not worry about pretending that the whole statement is not focused on turning into an undesirable woman.

Cheap = cheap whore, like not even a prostitute with some class. Well we know it is every little girls dream to grow up to be a cheap hooker selling her body on the streets to make ends meet. Risking her life for the sheer thrills it brings. Let's stop lying to ourselves and recognise that no one WANTS that, it is often the result of very diminished opportunity.

Easy?

“If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you wont give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ... Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” - Bob Marley

Stalk her, harass her, break her until she gives in? Because a woman value is measured by how hard she resists? Can't see a problem here, lets move on.
And well, we all and hate those fake people, fake bodies, fake smiles, fake actions. What happened to them that they are so afraid to be their beautiful amazing selves? We are all the product of atoms forged within the hearts of stars, what happened that cause them to forget what they are and their infinite potential?

Is it because we started looking at them as we do a consumable, disposable product?
